Youtube Forces Vape Content Creators to Label Their Videos as harmful & dangerous

Vape content creators are being warned and even having their channels closed if they don’t tag any pro-vaping video as harmful & dangerous. Creators of vape video on YouTube now run the prospect of having their whole channels banned if they do not include new, fundamentally false warnings, as discussed in a recent episode of RegWatch.

The removal of material and, in some instances, whole channels from YouTube reviews of vaping items has been said to have begun as early as 2018. The efforts now underway to obstruct any vape marketing that could appeal to minors have motivated such steps.

In response to the TPD’s proposed prohibition on marketing across borders, the New Nicotine Alliance (NNA) said that it has previously successfully campaigned for the right of vape reviews, ensuring that they could continue sharing their ideas and insights with other vapers.

How e-cigarette advertising is related to the tobacco industry

A meta-analysis of 29 research indicated that being exposed to adverts for tobacco and e-cigarettes online increases the likelihood that the user would try these items. The research, published in JAMA Pediatrics, analyzed survey data from more than 139,000 people of various ages, ethnicities, and social media platforms who participated in several studies. According to the data collected, those who engage with tobacco-related information on social media are more likely to report using these items themselves.

Scott Donaldson, a senior research associate at the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine, and lead author of the study, said, “We [cast] a wide net across the tobacco and social media literature and synthesized everything into a single association summarizing the relationship between social media exposure and tobacco use.” Our findings suggest that these correlations are strong enough to warrant consideration for population-level public health policy.
